Fluorescent Diamonds

Fluorescent Diamonds

Fluorescent diamonds are diamonds that glow under ultraviolet (UV) light. When exposed to UV light, these diamonds may emit a visible glow that can range in color from blue to yellow, green, or white. Fluorescent diamonds are not uncommon, and it is estimated that around 30% of all diamonds fluoresce to some degree. The fluorescence of a diamond is caused by the presence of trace elements in the diamond, such as nitrogen, that absorb the UV light and re-emit it as visible light. While fluorescent diamonds are generally considered to be less valuable than diamonds without fluorescence, this is not always the case and the effect of fluorescence on a diamond's value can vary. Some people may prefer the glowing effect of fluorescent diamonds, while others may not find it appealing. The fluorescence of a diamond can be graded on a scale from none to very strong, and the grading is typically included in the diamond's certificate.
